Разговорный английский. What is the weather like today?

I am not sure about Russia, but here in Britain weather is one of the most popular subjects to discuss. Below are a few phrases you may find useful when talking about it.

1. Какая там у вас погода?  -  What is the weather like over there?

2. У нас здесь довольно тепло.  -  It’s quite warm / fairly warm over here.    

3. На улице холодина.  -  It’s freezing cold out there / It’s freezing cold outside. 

4. Льет как из ведра.  -  It’s pouring down with rain. / It’s raining heavily.

5. Я попал под дождь.  -  I got caught in the rain.

6. Я весь промок. -  I am soaked through. / I am soaked to the skin.

7. Я так замерз! / Мне так холодно! / Я замерзаю!  -  I am freezing! 

8. Надеюсь, дождя не будет.  -  I hope the rain stays away. 

9. Поднялся ветер.  -  The wind picked up. 

10. Ветер успокоился.  -  The wind dropped. 

11. Ветер просто с ног сдувает.  -  The wind is blowing the roof off. 

12. Солнце скрылось (за тучу).  -  The sun is away. 

13.  Ветер пронизывает насквозь.  -  The wind cuts right through you.

14.  Гололед. / Очень скользко. Ноги разъезжаются в разные стороны.

       It’s ice / It’s slippery. Feet are sliding about.

15. Оттепель, все тает.  -  It’s thawing.

16. Ветер в лицо. -  The wind is against me. / The wind is in the face.

17. Ветер в спину.  -   The wind is from behind.  

18. У меня просто уши отмерзают.  -  My ears are freezing off. 

19. Я себе лицо обморозил.  -  My face got frostbitten.   

20. Погода на улице просто бушует.  -  It’s wild out there.

В эту пору года  -  at this time of the year 

На солнце  -  in the sun  

В тени  -  in the shade

It’s pretty warm in the sun already but still rather chilly in the shade.

Под дождем  -  in the rain

I like walking in the rain.  -  Я люблю гулять под дождем.
